NOMAD
The NOMAD buoy was donated to Catalina Biotech in 2014 by NOAA and has served as the SW corner buoy at Catalina Sea Ranch. This 17,000 pound offshore platform is equipped with technologies for transmitting real-time data for remotely monitoring environmental, security and aquaculture husbandry functions. It employs a combination of wind and solar power and the data can be viewed at: nomad.catalinasearanch.com.
This unique offshore monitoring platform has the potential to take a “pulse of the ocean” in real time for remote scientific analysis.
