KELP RESTORATION

Giant kelp (Macrocystis pyrifera) is the fastest growing organism on the planet majestically growing under deal conditions an astonishing two feet each day.  Buoyant from gas-filled bladders at the base of leaf like blades, kelp fronds grow to the surface where they provide a dense canopy shading the ecological demands of many marine species.   Invertebrates graze on its blades and fish seek shelter in the fonds.  Giant kelp thrives in turbulent water environments, which supply renewed nutrients for growing up to 175 feet.  Studies show little if any negative effects from managed harvesting as a renewable resource.
